The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Tuesday, December 12, that the tremors of the Bulusan volcano in Sorsogon province have decreased. According to the agency, the frequency of volcanic earthquakes has decreased to baseline levels or to five events per day since August, while the discharge of gray smoke has been low.
Phivolcs noted that the gas emissions "remained at low levels and produced only very weak to moderate plumes" from last year. However, it recommended that local government authorities and residents evacuate within a four-kilometer radius to a permanent danger zone due to the potential sudden and hazardous release of steam, ash, and rock.
Phivolcs also advised civil aviation authorities of the need to call on pilots to avoid flights near the summit of the volcano. It also cautioned people living in the valleys and along river channels to be alert for "lahars, saturated sediments, and debris flow" during heavy and prolonged rainfall.
**Quote:** "It is important to exercise caution and adhere to recommendations for ensuring the safety of all," - emphasized Phivolcs representatives.
